Ian Steaman is a reformed music industry executive turned award-winning screenwriter who worked with many chart-topping and critically acclaimed artists — from De La Soul, Queen Latifah, and Naughty by Nature to Kelis, Big Boi of Outkast, and T-Pain — while working at record labels in New York.
As a writer, he is passionate about telling universal stories about underrepresented characters and worlds for mainstream audiences
A 2019 graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s Bell Media Prime Time TV Writing Program, Ian has since gone on to develop a workplace comedy with CBC and worked on the family comedies, Children Ruin Everything, The Parker Andersons and Amelia Parker, CBC’s Pretty Hard Cases and the NBC Peacock family comedy, Take Note.
His work on Take Note won a Best Program award at the 2023 Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence and in 2022 he was nominated for a WGC Screenwriting Award for his work on The Parker Andersons.
Most recently Ian won a Canadian Screen Award in the Best Live Entertainment Special category for his work as a Producer-Writer on the 2023 Legacy Awards.
